On this week's Showcase I'm going to tell you the story behind the "Love in Camden" photo.
Just another day after work in Camden, central London, me and a few friends from work decide to go over to a local pub to enjoy the evening (yes, how very British of me, being Portuguese and all). We were just having some laughs and chatting, I had my trustee Canon at the time as I always had, and was facing the window directly, seeing the cars and buses go by during the twilight hour, at one point I wanted to capture an inside perspective shot with a red bus passing by.
I framed and composed everything like I wanted and I was seeing the a bus about to come by, I was so fixated on the timing of the bus that I failed to notice this couple suddenly meeting smack-dab in the middle of the frame and passionately hugging and about to kiss, it looked like a fantastic opportunity, I waited as much as I would risk waiting and just took the shot (never mind the bus), and this is the result. Fortunately the bus did come by to provide a nice backdrop to the kiss, it was just perfect timing. Needless to say I was thrilled, I couldn't wait to get home and check the result!
This is one of the things I love about street photography, you just can't tell what will happen in a fraction of a second, and if you've got good timing and a pinch of luck, you can get incredible stuff. And this happens every day! I love going out in london just to try and "hunt" opportunities like this, it's just such a dynamic city all the time with so many interesting characters and backdrops.
Thanks for reading this week's showcase. See you next week!
